Welcome to MechTech of New Hampshire, Inc.

We are shaping the future in the Metal Working Industry.

What is MechTech of New Hampshire?

MechTech is a machine tool apprenticeship program which combines 8,000 hours of practical machinist training with 577 hours of educational programming leading to a Journeyman's Certification.

The program was started in 1994 with ten people who passed the entry and testing requirements. The program expanded with more new apprentices being added in 1995; and the spring of 1996, several more individuals were assigned to respective work sites.

MechTech apprentices spend their days gaining paid hands-on experience with local manufacturers and their evenings attending classes learning geometry, algebra, blueprint eading, and machine tool theory. By the end of 4 years they've completed their degree and have had a chance to learn about the latest technologies while working alongside skilled craftsmen and business professionals. It generally takes several years to learn the basic fundamentals in metalworking technology. It can take several more years to become a skilled master of machine tool technologies.

Becoming a MechTech apprentice requires a four year commitment. It's a long road and a tremendous amount of work, but career opportunities following completion of the program will make all the hard work worth the time and effort.

MechTech can offer you:

Why is a Journeyman's Certificate so important?

With the growing demand for skilled machinist, tremendous opportunities in the machine tool field are on the rise. This program is a career investment you just can't afford to pass up.

How to Get Started?

For additional information regarding the MechTech Apprenticeship Program, please call the MechTech Coordinator's office at (603) 880-0115. A MechTech staff member will answer any questions you might have about the program.

Why Should Your Company become a Host Site?

In order for the MechTech program to grow and prosper, machine tool companies are needed to provide training and guidance to apprentices. While receiving instruction, apprentices also need the opportunity to put theory into practice in actual work situations. It is essential that both MechTech of New Hampshire and machine shop owners make an ongoing commitment to provide participants with the wide range of experiences they'll need to grow both in the classroom and on the shop floor.

The Benefits

What are the benefits of joining the MechTech program?

Business owners participating in the MechTech program have the opportunity to train apprentices in the skill areas they feel are most essential for machining's growth. They interview the candidates to be trained in their shops, and determine what shape the hands-on instruction will take. MechTech apprentices rotate to different shops at set intervals, giving them a chance to develop new skills and share the knowledge they've acquired every step of the way.

We, MechTech of New Hampshire wish to set each apprentice for success. In order to do that we need your help in securing host sites which can provide a opportunity for each apprentice to learn.

How can your company host an apprentice?

To become a host company for the MechTech Apprentice Program, call Sally Nolan, the MechTech Coordinator at (603) 880-0115 to arrange an appointment. The coordinator will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Where are some of the Host Site/Working "Cells" in the state?

A grouping of host sites within one geographic area is referred to by us as a working cell. We have one working cell which covers the Newport/Claremont/Upper Valley Area. Our second major working cell is the greater Manchester/Derry/Nashua Area. We are in the process of exploring the seascoast area as well as redevelopment of the Peterborough/Keene area within the next couple of years.
